Roles & Responsibilities

UoB is the coordinator of the MultiDrone project and responsible for multidrone semantic 3D world modelling, multidrone self-(re)localization, multiview target localization and tracking, visual analysis and intelligent drone cinematography.

The Thales group has a growing activity regarding drones both for civil and military applications where its expertise towards cyber security, safety and autonomous navigation is an opportunity for more business development. The two legal entities involved in MultiDrone are Thales Communications and Security and Thales Services.

Roles & Responsibilities

Thales is the lead integrator in the project and is responsible for a highly secured and autonomous LTE communication infrastructure, embedded visualization and multi drones supervisor. Thales is also leading the work package on ethics management.

 

AUTH

About

The Artificial Intelligence and Information Analysis (AIIA) Lab at AUTH is an active research group working on digital media and related areas. Its expertise spans a large spectrum of topics, such as digital image/video processing and analysis (including multi-view and stereoscopic video), semantic media analysis with emphasis on human-centered analysis, computer vision, machine learning and computational intelligence, graphics.

Roles & Responsibilities

Wihtin MultiDrone, AUTH will focus on visual information analysis with emphasis on humans (person/target detection and tracking, crowd detection and motion analysis etc), intelligent shooting/cinematography, semantic visual analysis towards a semantic 3D world modelling, etc.

 

USE

About

The University of Seville (USE) will be involved in the project through the “Robotics, Vision and Control” (GRVC) group which has a strong expertise on robotics and particularly on aerial robotics.

Roles & Responsibilities

USE will be responsible for the development of the high-level decisional architecture of the multidrone system, providing cooperative and safe behaviors for mission planning. USE will also support the development of techniques for multidrone tracking of multiple targets or events.

Deutsche Welle is Germany’s foreign broadcasting service. The Innovation team is a highly experienced group of people at the crossroads of journalism, IT, and media science, covering projects on data-driven journalism, drone journalism, VR journalism, social media analysis, content verification, speech recognition, machine translation and more.

Roles & Responsibilities

Deutsche Welle is one of the two media partners of the project, responsible for the testing and evaluation of the results of MultiDrone. Deutsche Welle is also responsible for gathering user requirements, supporting the definition of new cinematographic effects through multiple drones and leading the dissemination activities for MultiDrone.

About

Rai’s Centre for Research and Technological Innovation (CRIT) contributes to the evolution of the broadcasting and multimedia system, in the definition of new standards and the development of new services. It supports the Rai Group in its choices in the technological field and the phases of experiment and introduction of new products and systems.

Roles & Responsibilities

Rai, the second media partner, will also support the definition of general requirements of a media production with multiple drones. It will furthermore design and development HCI software components for the control of the drones, supply AV material for video analysis and machine learning processes and support evaluation and testing of the final product.

 

AIR

About

ALERION is specialized in smart and advanced solutions for and by drones and other unmanned vehicles. It develops its own cyber-physical components for UAVs and can also integrate entire systems from mission specific components (sensors, communication hubs) up to the GIS for example or even design completely specific solutions.

Roles & Responsibilities

In the project ALERION will support several aspects of the research program regarding mostly the formation/collaboration, communication and safety functions. Il will be actively playing an integration role both in hardware and software and will lead the efforts on insuring safety operation by developing the procedures and the safety components with regards to local and European regulations.

IST is the premium engineering, science and technology school in Portugal, integrating competences from all fields of engineering and fundamental sciences, creating a unique multidisciplinary scientific environment. The Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR/IST) is an IST’s R&D unit, developing state-of- the-art engineering solutions and projects with a clear societal impact.

Roles & Responsibilities

IST involvement will have a core contribution on the development of multiple drone flight/formation online planning and control methods for AV shooting, as well as a leading role on system specification, in particular multi-actor system architecture, communication, functionality specification and design. IST will also contribute to system implementation at the individual level and integrated system level, and play an active role in flight testing, validation, and demonstration.
